High School Girls Basketball - Practice Canceled
First, due to the weather, today's practice is canceled. Our next practice is tomorrow (Friday) from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Second, we have two games on Saturday at The Colorado Springs School (address: 21 Broadmoor Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80906; phone: 719-434-3580). The first game is at 11:00 a.m. and the second game is at 1:30 p.m. The girls should arrive to Colorado Springs School by 10:30 a.m. We also suggest that the girls bring a snack to eat between games (similar to what we did for the James Irwin tournament). If rides are an issue for anyone, please feel free to contact Coach Hrbacek (719-822-5132) and we will try to help make arrangements.
Finally, we were proud of how the girls played at the games in Pueblo last night. They worked hard and played well! We look forward to seeing continued improvement in the coming weeks!

Update and Upcoming Events
We wanted to provide an update after our first game action of the season. Thank you to everyone who came to support the team over the weekend – much appreciated! Overall, we were very pleased with how the girls played. They hustled, they improved and they never quit. And, hopefully they had some fun! While we know it can get discouraging looking at the scoreboard sometimes, we hope the girls had a good experience at the tournament. We are very young compared to the other teams against whom we competed and yet we still remained plenty competitive. We also have some areas where we know we can get better.
You will see that our practice schedule is a bit modified this week. We have practice scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. both nights. We recognize that Thursday may present a conflict for some people due to the junior performance. For that reason, we plan to treat Thursday an optional open gym for those who are able to attend.
Again, we appreciate how hard the girls are working and how much they are improving. We hope you can see the improvement as well. As always, please feel free to contact us with questions.
Coach Hrbacek and Coach O’Hara
Early dismissal for Friday's game
The girls basketball team will be playing their first game @ James Irwin @ 3:30pm tomorrow, Dec. 2nd.
They will be dismissed at 2:10pm and should be on their way to the game no later than 2:20pm so as to arrive at James Irwin by about a quarter to three.
The Girls will have games at 3:30pm and 6:30pm tomorrow and Saturday's game times will be determined by Friday's results.
I wanted to update everyone on the tournament this weekend.
James Irwin has had a low number of girls come out for their basketball program. Because of this, they only have 7 girls that will be playing in the JV game this weekend. We are still going forward with the game so the schedule on the attached form below will not change; however, I wanted to let everyone know that they only have 12 girls for both Varsity and JV and will be playing with shallow benches for the tournament.
Welcome to the Season!
Thank you for supporting your daughters’ participation on the high school basketball team. The girls have been working hard!
Paul O’Hara has kindly agreed to help coach as well. We wanted to give a little more information about the upcoming season.
As explained at the initial meeting, there is only one high school team for the girls this year. This is why we had tryouts. At the conclusion of tryouts, we made the decision to invite all the girls who tried out to be a part of the team – so we will have a roster of 14 players. We believe each person can and will contribute to the team and we are excited to see how these girls will grow and improve, both individually and as a group.
We explained to the girls that, because we are competing at the high school level (and at times against older and more experienced players) we cannot guarantee playing time for everyone. So, there will be games where not everyone plays and games where playing time may be minimal. We wanted to be open about this so that the girls would have this understanding from the beginning. All that said, one of our goals will be to develop each member of the team. This means a lot of development will take place in practice. We believe each player has an important place on this team and we will do our best to treat each player that way.
Everyone should have a hard copy of our practice and game schedule - see attached for an updated version. Please let me know if you need a copy and I will get it to you. As a bonus, for many of our scheduled games, there will actually be two games, as we will play against both JV and Varsity teams for some schools. We will use our full roster for both games where we can.
Our first games will occur in the James Irwin Tournament (at James Irwin), December 2 and 3. We play at 3:30 and 6:30p.m. on Friday, December 2 and on Saturday, December 3 our game times will depend on the outcomes of the Friday games. Please see the flyer. It should be a fun experience!
Please feel free to contact me (or Coach O’Hara) with any questions, concerns, etc. Here is our contact information:
